Kohima: Twenty-three-year-old Kezhaseluo Pienyü from Kohima Village on Monday emerged as the wrestling champion of the Northern Angami Sports Association (NASA) sports meet in the senior category held at the Kohima local ground. 

Pienyü defeated 34-year-old Dziesalatuo Keretsü from Kohima village in two straight bouts in the final to clinch the title. He walked away with a cash prize of Rs 80,000, while Keretsü won Rs 50,000.

Keviser Dzüvichü, 26, from Kohima village secured the third position, while 24-year-old Kezhavizo Thevo from Chedema village stood fourth winning a cash prize of Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000, respectively. 

The NASA wrestling meet began on Saturday where over 100 wrestlers from the Northern Angami areas competed in two categories. The wrestling competition resumed on Monday after it was called off due to a heavy downpour earlier.

In the under-16 category, sixteen-year-old Menuolelie Chüpuo from Zhadima village won emerged as the champion winning a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 20,000.

While 16-year old Kevisoneiu Üsou from Meriema secured the second position, 15-year-old Kevisazolie Solo from Kohima village and 15-year-old Menuovilie Lhoungu from Dihoma village secured the third and fourth positions, respectively.

Üsou walked away with a cash prize of Rs 15,000, Solo with Rs 10,000 and Lhoungu with Rs 7,000.

The quarter-finalists in the senior category each received Rs 5,000, while the quarter finalists in the junior category received Rs 3,000 each.
