Kohima: Condemning the “utter lies and despicable statement” of Home Minister Amit Shah in the parliament about the ‘Oting massacre’, the Rising People’s Party demanded that the Union minister retract the statement.

“His fabricated statement is like rubbing salt to the wounds. It worsened the situation in the state leading to more protests, including burning of his effigies in different parts of the state,” an update from the RPP said.

The RPP demanded that the Home Minister retract the “fabricated statement which was made to confuse the outside world and protect the murderers in the guise of 21 Para SF”.

The party said that Shah made the condemnable statement on December 6, but so far, the three parties of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) coalition are yet to condemn the fabricated statement.

The RPP demanded that the NDPP, BJP and the NPF condemn Shah’s statement in “totality”. It said, “The issue is simple – whether the UDA government is with the Naga people or with Amit Shah”. The party said that the UDA coalition should demonstrate beyond doubt that it is above party politics.

It demanded that during the upcoming special assembly session on December 20, all 60 MLAs of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly should condemn the Oting massacre and that a resolution be adopted that the killings were “nothing but cold-blooded murder”.

Targeted killings by army personnel for promotion and medals have been established and documented in Kashmir and elsewhere, it said.

The RPP also said that the Mon killings require a thorough probe by a sitting Judge of the High court or Supreme Court. It suggested the NLA adopt a resolution, demanding the constitution of a Supreme Court-led independent probe. In the interest of justice, it said the state government should pursue the issue at the highest level.

“Another disturbing pattern is the role of the DC and SP of Mon district. Between the 1st firing and the 2nd firing by the 21 Para SF, there was a gap of almost 5 hours. During this crucial period, the district administration went missing. The RPP demands that both the DC and the SP are suspended immediately till the outcome of the SIT report is made known,” it added.
