Kohima: The state of Nagaland received its share of pressure swing adsorption (PSA) oxygen plants across the state as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 35 PSA oxygen plants across the country under the PM CARES fund.

The biggest PSA oxygen plant in the state with a capacity of 1000 LPM was installed at the Naga Hospital Authority (NHAK) in Kohima. During a formal ceremony, Adviser to the department of Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, Neikiesalie Kire acknowledged the Government of India and the health department for the successful installation of the State’s biggest PSA.

Saying that COVID-19 has come to stay, Kire urged the people to protect themselves with the hope to protect others as well. As PSA plants are installed across the state, he said that there will be sufficient oxygen supply for patients and hoped that many more lives would be saved.

Dr Sendimeren Aonok, the medical superintendent at NHAK thanked the premier and the state chief minister for the installation of the PSA oxygen plant within a short time. He informed that the PSA comprises four cylinders of which two big cylinders are used as reservoirs.

One 500 LPM oxygen generation plant was also inaugurated at the District Hospital in Mon.  MLA N Thongwang Konyak, who inaugurated the plant, thanked the Centre and State Government for providing the facility to the district. 

He said that Mon was fortunate to be among the 35 beneficiary lists and urged the medical team to use the equipment judiciously for the benefit of all. With the new facility, Konyak said that the district will be more confident to face a third wave if it strikes.

In a separate ceremony, DC Mon, Thavaseelan K, also inaugurated a CSR funded 400 LPM Oxygen Generation Plant at District Hospital Mon which was funded by ACT Grants under the initiative of District Task Force Mon.

The DC dedicated the plant to all the Health workers in the District with the hope that Mon would continue to be one of the safest Districts in the country during the pandemic.

In Peren, a 250 LPM PSA oxygen generation plant was formally inaugurated by the deputy commissioner Sentiwapang Aier. During the launch, Aier urged the public and the government departments to have coordination and give cooperation for smooth functioning of the hospital.

Another 250 LPM PSA Oxygen Plant was inaugurated at the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Jalukie under Peren district. ADC Jalukie, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, during the launch lauded the medical department and civil societies for their selfless service rendered in the fight against the pandemic.

He said that the challenges amid the COVID-19 pandemic have given the people an opportunity to redevelop the health and medical infrastructure. Saying that the government is taking all possible steps to fight against the pandemic, he assured its commitment to ensure better health services for the people’s safety.

As the district received two PSAs, he reminded the medical staff and the citizens to take utmost care of the facilities and consider it as their own assets. 

In Mokokchung, Minister for Higher Education & Tribal Affairs, Temjen Imna Along, inaugurated a 200 LPM Oxygen Generation Plant, under PM Cares fund at IMDH Mokokchung.

Speaking on the occasion, Along said that the day was momentous for the people of Mokokchung to finally have the PSA Oxygen Plant in the district which would cater to Mokokchung and the neighbouring districts.

In Wokha, a 250 LPM PSA oxygen plant was inaugurated by MLA Dr Chumben Murry at the Dr Motsuo Memorial District Hospital (DMMDH). As the district hospital is equipped with many new facilities, he urged the healthcare workers to be dedicated in their services.  

Medical Superintendent, DMMDH Wokha, Dr. Tumchobeni said that the basic aim behind establishing PSA oxygen generation plants in Government hospitals in the district headquarters is to strengthen the public health system while ensuring that each of these hospitals has a captive oxygen generation facility.

As the plants are made functional, he said that it will ensure uninterrupted supply of oxygen in hospitals at district level. However, due to the non-availability of a separate transformer to support the functioning of the plant, she appealed to the concerned authorities to help in hastening the installation of a separate transformer at the district hospital, the proposal for which is already made.

At Tuensang, a 500 LPM PSA Plant was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Kumar Ramnikant at the District Hospital. In Longleng, Deputy Commissioner M Shayung Phom inaugurated a 250 LPM Oxygen Generation Plant at Community Health Center, Yachem.

Meanwhile in Noklak, Deputy Commissioner Hiazu Meru inspected the installation process of the PSA plant at the District Hospital, Noklak on Thursday.
