Kohima: Outgoing Nagaland Governor RN Ravi, who takes charge as the governor of Tamil Nadu, left the state on Wednesday, leaving behind a heartfelt message for the people of Nagaland.

“A little over two years of intimate association with you as the Governor, Nagaland has left me humbled and deeply touched. Inherent strength of your character, innate simplicity, ability to be patient with truth, howsoever inconvenient, and unbounded love and affection for a friend has few parallels in the world,” the message from Ravi read.

He added, “Thank you for not letting me feel, even for a moment, as not one of you. I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity to be associated with the people who strive for peace. I am confident that the people of Nagaland will continue to stand for peace and prosperity”.

Expressing his concern for the youth, Ravi urged the youth of Nagaland to embrace truth and peace as against deceit and violence. “The future of this state is in your hands. Please build the Nagaland of your dreams,” he said.

Assuring his prayers, Ravi then urged the people to take good care of themselves. On Tuesday evening, a state farewell programme was held to honour the governor of Nagaland. As per sources, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and several other legislators met with Ravi on Wednesday before his departure from the state.

Taking to Twitter, Nagaland Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom wrote: “Bid adieu to Hon’ble outgoing Governor Shri. R N Ravi at Dimapur Airport today. We will deeply remember your actions and valuable initiatives for the growth & progress of our State. May your leadership excel higher and greater.”

Earlier, the Nagaland CM tweeted, “I sincerely thank Hon’ble Governor of Nagaland Shri R. N. Ravi for his numerous contributions to the state of Nagaland. He exuded genuine concern for the development and welfare of the state. My best wishes to him as he assumes his new assignment as the Governor of Tamil Nadu.”

Deputy CM Y Patton also tweeted, “My deep gratitude to former Governor of Nagaland, Shri R. N. Ravi, for his many contributions to the state. I wish him well in his new role as the Governor of Tamil Nadu.”

Ravi’s departure a loss for the people of Nagaland

A high ranking government official, on condition of anonymity, told EastMojo that the transfer of the governor is a loss for the people of Nagaland. “As a governor, we will never get someone like him. He worked so hard for our people, even went against our own politicians and officials so that the general public may benefit,” the source said.

Recounting the governor’s concern for the people, the official said, “He was genuinely concerned about the people, especially those from far flung areas. He is such a learned man and knows our society, our history in and out. He also had great concern for the youth.  Even though many did not like the way he operated, I think the people have benefited through his deed”.

The official added, “From a broader perspective, his departure is a loss for the people of Nagaland, as it quite clear that many of his plans for the people are not fulfilled. But as a governor, he did not fail. As an interlocutor, I have no comments.”

As reported earlier, the Kohima Press Club (KPC) had boycotted the state farewell programme of the governor to show their resentment against Ravi for being inaccessible to the media during his two-year stint in the state.

RN Ravi was sworn in as the 19th Governor of Nagaland at the Raj Bhavan in Kohima on August 1, 2019. The Centre has recently assigned Assam Governor Jagdish Mukti the additional charge of Nagaland.
