Kohima: The horticulture office at Nagaland’s newest district, Noklak, was inaugurated by Mhathung Yanthan, advisor for horticulture and border affairs, on Thursday.

Noklak was formally inaugurated as the 12th district of the state by chief minister Neiphiu Rio in January this year.

During the inauguration of the horticulture office at Noklak, Yanthan said that a new dawn of progress and development is being witnessed in the district. The legislator expressed hope that farmers will now access opportunities to learn modern ways of farming through the department.

He encouraged the farmers to come forward and receive benefits from the department. Yanthan also challenged the government employees to work sincerely and fulfill their responsibilities wherever they are posted, in order to leave a good footprint behind. Further, Yanthan sought the support and cooperation of the public.

Advisor of fisheries and aquatic resources, evaluation, economic and statistics L Khumo Khiamniungan added that with the establishment of the office, traditional ways of farming will be improved.

He thanked the government and all those who took the initiative of establishing the district horticulture office at Noklak.

Meanwhile, through a press note, H Haiying, advisor for prison, printing and stationery, conveyed sincere appreciation to the CM for the approval and subsequent creation of the district horticulture office at Noklak under the horticulture department with immediate effect.

He hoped that with the establishment of the office, the people of the district will immensely benefit from having direct access to various schemes and programmes under the department concerned, which in turn will go a long way in improving the lives of the far-flung eastern regions.
