Kohima: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Nagaland police on Thursday filed chargesheet against 19 accused over the incident on March 22, in which three persons were killed at Lamhainamdi village along the Peren-Dimapur border.
The police said that the SIT of the Police Headquarters (PHQ) in the State Crime Police Station with case no 02/2021 has submitted the chargesheet against the 19 accused belonging to different factions.
“The chargesheet has been filed U/S 302/120B/436/34 IPC r/w 25 (1A)/25(1B) (a)/ 27(3) Arms Act and 7/8 NSR,” the police said.
Seven of the accused have been arrested by the SIT while the police is on the lookout for the remaining 12 who are absconding. The arrested persons are currently in judicial custody.
The seven arrested persons against whom the chargesheet has been filed have been identified as Kisheto Zhimomi, Head GB, Vihuto Village, Munwang Konyak of the NSCN-IM, Tongkhahao Sitlhou from Athibung, Vikheshe Achumi from Thilixu, Yepeka Kiba of the NSCN-IM, Lentilen Hangsing of the NSCN-U and Livingson Awomi from Thilixu.
In April this year, the SIT had arrested four suspects in connection with the case. The police informed that the four suspects were granted bail and later released.
Earlier, a suo moto case was registered on March 23 against unknown persons by the State Crime Police Station (SCP).
Subsequently, the SIT headed by a senior police officer was constituted for investigation of the case. According to the police, the investigation had revealed that the 19 accused persons were part of “deep-rooted criminal conspiracy to plan, prepare and execute the killing of three persons at Lamhainamdi Village”.
It informed that the SIT visited the makeshift camp in the jungle, about 2-3 km from the village, that was used for accommodation and preparation by the accused for the commission of the crime. The police collected various incriminating evidences in this regard.
“During the course of investigation, the SIT had seized various incriminating evidences such as photographs of Accused with Arms during their stay at makeshift jungle camp, videos, certain technical evidences, crucial material evidences such as ammunitions and other incriminating materials from the scene of crime,” the police said.
The state police added that the identities of few other unknown persons involved in the case are also being established and the case is considered for further investigation.
