Kohima: Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio, on Wednesday launched the Oxygen Generation Plant at the Phek district hospital. The CM thanked UNDP India and the Government of Japan for installing the oxygen generation plant.
“We are indebted for this help, the one that strengthens our health facility and furthers our ability to be able to succeed in mitigating this unprecedented health crisis,” said Rio stated. He also sought continuous support from the public as many developmental activities are taking place.
Rio also took to Twitter saying “Jointly launched oxygen generation plant in Phek with H.E @EOJinIndia @JapaninIndia and @shokonoda of @UNDP_India . I express gratitude on behalf of the people of Nagaland. This humanitarian assistance will help save lives and tackle better the unprecedented global health crisis”.
Principal Secretary Health and Family Welfare, Amardeep Singh Bhatia, while giving an overview of the UNDP COVID-19 response said that Japan has been happily assisting in development in the Northeast with a feeling of closeness based on a shared history.
“I hope that these Oxygen Generating Plants will serve well and help as many people as possible for a long time to come,” said His Excellency, Suzuki Satoshi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of India.
Shoko Noda, UNDP Resident Representative in India also said “UNDP stands committed to supporting the government of India to fight COVID-19, in partnership with development partners and UN sister agencies. I am pleased that our several months of effort to provide end to end service, to install and set the oxygen generation plants up and running has come to fruition. Together, we can better prepare for future crises”.
The CM also held a meeting with the Phek District Task Force and civil societies and took stock of the COVID-19 situation in the district. “I express my gratitude to all frontline workers who are giving their best in fighting the pandemic. My best wishes to them as they work hard to bring health to the district,” he said.
Earlier on Tuesday, Nagaland CM also inaugurated an Oxygen Generator Plant at Tuensang district hospital, a joint effort of the Government of Nagaland, UNDP and Government of Japan.
Rio had highlighted how the plant will save lives in the far-flung District even in the long run. He had also advised the technicians to maintain the equipment with utmost care and sincerity so that the facility will provide much-needed service even to the neighbouring districts as well.
