Kohima: With World Music Day just around the corner, Musicians Guild Nagaland has announced its decision to celebrate the day by raising funds for COVID-19 relief through a virtual concert.
World Music Day is celebrated every year on June 21.
The line-up for the virtual concert are: Trance Effect, Tune up channel, Mar Jamir, Rap Cypher, Elysian, KL Pamei, Abdon Mech, Imliakum, About Us, The Wishess, Papersky, Megh, Version2, Seysei, and Arenlong Longkumer.
World Music Day concerts held in Kohima over the past five years are some of the biggest annual events in Nagaland featuring artistes from the state and the Northeast region.
“In the midst of the humanitarian crisis, as music enthusiasts and artistes around the world celebrate ‘World Music Day’, Musicians Guild Nagaland would like to do its part in alleviating the pain of those who are suffering. Towards this cause, we will be hosting a virtual relief concert on June 21 with the intent of raising funds from free will donors,” a release from the Musicians Guild Nagaland said.
It informed that funds raised through the event will go towards providing relief and support to COVID-19 patients from financially poor families struggling to fight against the disease.
Local musicians have also been affected badly since last year, it said, adding that full time musicians are struggling to survive with no live shows, and going through a very difficult time.
Keeping in mind the struggles of the local musicians, it announced that the Musicians Guild will be presenting music awards for all Northeastern states to encourage and support musicians during these difficult times.
A total of 193 entries from all the seven Northeastern states have been registered for the Musicians Guild Music Awards. The results for the awards will be declared on June 21 during the World Music Day virtual concert.
The concert will be initiated by the Symphony Academy of Music in collaboration with San Production, Indihut, Out Loud Inc, Shiu Lights and Highland Dawn Media. The concert is presented by Musicians Guild and supported by Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA) and Nagaland Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA).
The virtual concert and MG Music Awards will be aired on the ‘Musicians Guild NL’ YouTube channel at 6 pm on June 21.
