Kohima: Demanding that the ruling People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) government ‘immediately address the plight of the people’, opposition party Naga People’s Front (NPF) on Sunday warned that ‘starvation war will destroy the whole state.’
The party, through a release, expressed deep concern over the health and economic welfare of the public. “As the impact of the continuous lockdown throughout the state has severely affected the poorer section of the society in terms of their two square meals a day, hence the party asked the Government what programmes and initiatives it had taken so far in addressing these issues,” the party questioned.
According to the party, the government has remained silent over meeting the basic rights of the people. “Unless the Government seriously addresses the economic problem of the people, soon it may account to hunger dead soon,” it said.
The party also expressed concern over the rise of COVID-19 cases in the state which is slowly transmitting towards the rural areas. Despite the COVID-19 threat, it said that “no government can let its people go hungry as the earnings for many sections of the society had been by paralyzed for months due to lockdown”.
The party also reiterated the demand by its legislature wing to set up an inquiry into the government’s financial management during the pandemic. The party said that a detailed white paper of all the funds received and the expenditures incurred from 2020/21 to 2021/22, with all relevant methodology of grants, processes of procurement, and disbursement criteria must be published.
“It’s high time the PDA should spill out the beans that have remained under their coffer out from the pandemic sake fund and genuinely work for the welfare of the people,” the party said. It also urged the state government to sensitise the public about vaccination and ensure sufficient vaccine availability to its people.
