Kohima: In an important addition to the healthcare infrastructure in the state amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio inaugurated a 30-bed COVID-19 hospital at the Nagaland Police Referral Hospital in Chumukedima under Dimapur district, on Tuesday.
The new COVID-19 hospital is equipped with seven ICU beds, five oxygen beds and 15 oxygen concentrators. The chief minister expressed satisfaction with the arrangements made in the hospital, a DIPR report stated.
He also inspected the upcoming 75-bed COVID-19 hospital in the same complex and was satisfied with the progress of the work. DGP Nagaland John Longkumer informed the Chief Minister that it would be completed within 20 days.
Taking to Twitter, Rio also tweeted: “Inaugurated 30-bedded COVID hospital at Nagaland Police Referral Hospital. This will further strengthen the capacity to treat #COVID19 patients. Grateful to everyone, esp. our frontline workers, who have been working tirelessly since the start of the pandemic. #TogetherWeCan“
During the visit to Dimapur, Rio also inspected the upcoming 75 bedded Covid hospital in the same complex.
Rio, other legislators, and state officials also visited the district hospital to take stock of the situation and the PSA Oxygen Plant and had a brief interaction with CMO and the MS. Rio was briefed about the installation of the PSA oxygen plant.
The CM also assessed the COVID-19 makeshift hospital at the Institute of Hotel Management which is being converted into a 100-bedded hospital. “The place has the capacity to further increase the number of beds to handle cases requiring hospitalization,” the CM tweeted.

Rio also visited the CIHSR in Dimapur to inspect the proposed 176-bedded COVID-19 hospital which will be equipped with all healthcare facilities.
Director CIHSR, Dr Sedevi informed the team about the layout of the proposed hospital to the visiting team and informed them that the setting up of the hospital should be completed within 2 months once a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed and required materials have been received.
The CM informed that the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has “commissioned 10 MVA transformer at CIHSR sub-station for reliable power supply to oxygen plant & nearby areas as requested by the state government”.
