Kohima: Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Nagaland police have arrested four suspects in connection with the March 22 incident where three persons were killed at Lamhainamdi village along the Peren-Dimapur border. The SIT, headed by a DIG, was constituted to investigate the State Crime Police Station (SCPS) Case No. 02/2021.
The accused have been identified as Zheshito Swu, Gaon Bura (GB) of Kiyevi Village, Ghosheto Swu, Village Development Board (VDB) Secretary of Kiyevi Village, Vikaho Kappo, and Lovito Swu, from Diphuphar, Dimapur.
The police informed that the arrested individuals are currently in police custody. During the course of the investigation, vital leads having a bearing on the case have emerged and more arrests are likely to be affected in the coming days, said the police.
SP (Crime) & PRO, PHQ informed that a suo motu case under sections 302/120 B/188/34 IPC R/W 251B/27 (3) Arms Act was registered on March 23 against unknown persons in the State Crime Police Station relating to the firing and killing that took place at Lamhainamdi village.
According to the police, the SIT visited the place of the incident on March 24 and inspected the scene of the crime and recorded the statements of the police personnel posted in the disputed area.
Statements of the eyewitnesses to the incident were also examined and recorded. On March 25, extensive raid and search operations were carried out by a combined team of SIT, District Executive Force (DEF), Special Task Force (STF) and the special branch personnel at the vicinity of the scene of the crime and the neighbouring villages.
Following the operation, many relevant materials and pieces of evidence were collected and seized including empty and live ammunitions of various calibres.
According to the police, more details cannot be divulged as it is likely to hamper the course of the investigation. It assured that the SIT in confident of unravelling the case to a logical conclusion.
