Kohima: The state’s ruling government, People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) consensus candidate, H Chuba Chang was elected uncontested to the 51 Noksen Assembly constituency in the by-poll to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) on Saturday.

Deputy Chief electoral officer, Awa Lorin, declared that Chuba Chang was elected uncontested to fill the casual vacancy caused in the NLA by the death of former minister CM Chang.

Chuba Chang had earlier filed for the by-polls with the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) ticket and is the lone candidate to file for the nomination.

The announcement of the result was made on Saturday, the last date for withdrawal of candidatures. Earlier on Tuesday, nominations were closed and the scrutiny of the nominations was conducted the next day.

The by-election to the 51 Noksen Assembly constituency was scheduled to be held on April 17. The Assembly constituency was left vacant after the demise of Minister CM Chang on October 12 last year.
