Nagaland governor RN during a review meeting on Thursday

Kohima: Following Nagaland governor RN Ravi’s intervention, total restriction along the Kohima-Dimapur National Highway (NH) has been lifted on Thursday.

The decision to open the highway for commuters was made during a review meeting after elaborate deliberations, keeping in mind the due safety and needs of the commuters, the governor’s PRO informed.

The meeting called by the governor was attended by ADGP and Special Secretary (Home), SR Saravanan; DC Dimapur, Rajesh S; Commissioner of Police Dimapur, Rothihu; Executive Director (P), NHIDCL, Kohima, MS Deol; Engineer-in-Chief, NPWD, Kohima, Er. Limatongdang Jamir and Chief Engineer (NH) NPWD, Er Kezha Theünuo.

During the review meeting, it was decided that total restriction on traffic was no longer required. However, the time slot for the opening of the road will be between 6 AM to 10 AM and 2 PM to 5 PM daily from Friday onwards.

The PRO informed that while reviewing the ongoing traffic restrictions on the Dimapur-Kohima National Highway, the governor expressed deep concerns over untold hardships that the public has been facing due to continuous traffic restrictions along the highway.

Ravi also expressed displeasure towards the contractors for “reckless rock blasting” which has caused the heavy rock slide recently. He also advised the State Government to explore legal actions and hold the erring contractors accountable for the reckless acts.

It informed that the NHIDCL would ensure that the contractors place enough resources on the ground and take sufficient measures to stabilize the rocks and clear the debris without delay.

The Dimapur District Administration will also be responsible to review the situation after one week for further easing of the traffic.
