Kohima: A massive rockslide along the National Highway-29 stretch near the Chumukedima police check-post early on Tuesday has now blocked the national highway connecting Dimapur and Kohima indefinitely.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Relo Aye told EastMojo that three travelers, two men and one woman, were injured in the incident. He said the injured travelers were rushed to the nearest hospital and their condition is reported to be stable at the time of filing this report.

Aye said four vehicles that were plying along the particular route at the time of the incident were damaged on Tuesday.

Due to ongoing development work along NH-29, rockslides along the route have become routine in the region. At the time of the incident on Tuesday, no construction work was reportedly taking place at the site.

The Dimapur Police late took to Twitter to inform that the stretch from police check gate to TL Park area will be closed indefinitely for traffic until debris is completely cleared at the rockslide affected area.

A circular issued by Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur Rajesh Soundararajan, IAS, said the road from Chathe river bridge to Kukidolong will be closed until further notice due to the massive rockslides between Chumukedima police check-post and New Chumukedima village.

The DC has ordered restriction on all movement as a precautionary measure to prevent any injury, loss of life and damage of property.

The DC has also urged the public to consider alternative routes to travel between Dimapur and Kohima. One alternative route from Dimapur to Kohima for light vehicles only is via 7th Mile—New DC Court—Shokhuvi—Razaphe—Mhaikam—Pimla—Mhainamtsi—Jhornapani/Mediphema and vice versa.
