Nagaland: In a first, 39 colleges to compete virtually on Dec 14-15

The mega e-collegiate meet-cum-beat contest will be conducted with the hope to enable students to use internet productively

Kohima: In a first, 39 colleges in Nagaland will be virtually competing for the biennial collegiate meet due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 'e-collegiate meet-cum-beat contest' will be conducted by the All Nagaland College Students' Union (ANCSU) from December 14-15.

Inato Chishi, vice president, ANCSU, informed that around 1,000 students from across the state are expected to compete in various competitions ranging from online sports to music and literature. The event will be hosted by the government Polytechnic Kohima.

"The e-collegiate meet cum beat contest will definitely help students to use the internet positively. It will also be a platform for students to express their ideas, visions, and concerns," he said.

With the virtual mode of conducting the collegiate meet, he expressed that such an event will help students to adapt to the new way of learning things online.

In adapting to the digital trends, he said that despite the difficulty to organise a mega event in the virtual mode, it will serve as an opportunity to bring new ideas.

He said that such events have provided platforms for talented students to explore themselves by participating in various competitions. The competitions are open to all colleges affiliated and associated with the student body.

The categories of events under online sports are football freestyle challenge, basketball freestyle challenge, and online chess. Events under literature competitions include slam poetry, essay, photography, painting, and quiz.

Music competitions are categorised as original song competition, beat contest, and folk fusion. Besides these, they will also be competing for the finest innovation and designing, and film-craft competition.

One special package for the event will be the highest Instagram likes challenge for a college. The mega online event will be conducted under the theme "Beyond".
