Nagaland: 66 new COVID-19 cases detected; death toll rises to 51

Total positive cases surged to 10,674 as 51 from Dimapur, 14 from Tuensang and one from Kohima tested positive

Kohima: Nagaland continues to witness a daily spike in the number of COVID-19 positive cases. On Saturday, the total confirmed cases rose to 10,674 as another 66 fresh COVID-19 cases were detected. The state also reported another COVID-19 death taking the death toll to 51.

The fresh COVID-19 cases were detected from three districts—51 from Dimapur, 14 from Tuensang and one from Kohima. As per the sector-wise distribution of the new cases, 53 cases are through traced contacts, nine are among security personnel, and two each are returnees and frontline workers.

Out of the total 10,674 positive cases reported in the state, 9,137 are recovered cases, 1,370 are active cases, and 105 are migrated cases. Among the active cases, 1,323 are asymptomatic, 26 are mild symptomatic, 11 are moderate on oxygen, four are severe on oxygen, five are critical without oxygen, and one is critical in ICU on a ventilator.

One more COVID-19-related death has been reported from Kohima on Saturday. With this, the state reported a total of 62 deaths of which 51 are COVID-19 related deaths, six are not COVID-19 related and another five deaths are still under investigation.

Dimapur district has reported the highest death rate in the state, followed by Kohima. As per the health department, 64% of deaths are below 60 years of age. The most commonly affected age group is 40-49 years followed by the 30-39-years age group.

All COVID-19 deaths are certified by the state death committee as per ICMR and WHO ICD 10 guideline. 78% of the COVID-19 deaths are male, and deaths with comorbidities comprise 78% of the total death in the state. The most common comorbidities are Diabetes & Hypertension

Out of the total confirmed cases in Nagaland, 4,420 are security personnel, 3,997 are traced contacts, 1,753 are returnees, and 504 are frontline workers.

A total of 10,8781 COVID-19 tests has been conducted in the state till Saturday. Of this, 66,369 samples were tested through RT PCR, 35,501 samples through Truenat and 6,911 through rapid antigen.
