A good song always has the innate capacity to draw your pain and boredom out and make you sway to its beats. Beethoven himself once said “Music can change the world,” so there is obviously no need to elaborate the power of music any further.
Now, Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA), the 2019-formed organisation which has a keen eye on the music scene of Nagaland has released a roster of 10 artists from Nagaland. However, this “ain’t no plain ol” listicle of songs that you need to listen to for this are “handpicked Top Hits from Nagaland.”
The list feature artists and bands of the likes of Trance Effect, Imcha Imchen, Virie, Alobo Naga, Abdon Mech, etc. So pop those earbuds on, zone out the chaotic world, and groove to these songs.
Clowns– Trance Effect
One of the finest indie-rock bands from the region — Trance Effect — kicked off the new year by releasing their debut music video titled Clowns. The band from Nagaland has been spilling their groovy music across the region and has also been performing at jam-packed venues across the country.
Released on January 11, 2020, the song has been buzzing the internet and is also garnering huge views on YouTube with over 12 thousand views in just two days of launch. With groovy lyrics, the song is stealing the hearts of many and at the same time making listeners dance in unison with the song.
Chasing Ghosts– Alobo Naga
Before collaborating with fellow artists for Take My Time Alobo Naga had released another single that provides a surreal and deeply layered experience. The music is coupled with equally mystifying visuals that make the song a must on our playlist. This song with its perfect blend of music, storytelling, and eye-catchy visual effects has garnered over 44k views on YouTube so far.
Again- Abdon Mech
“This song is a reflection on the new reality and how it has changed all our lives. It’s written from the perspective of multiple sections of the society as I try to put myself in their shoes and tell their story for them,” said Abdon while describing this masterpiece.
The languid music, the hypnotic voice of Mech coupled with lyrics like, “I miss the air that I could breathe without the fear of dying,” is more than enough to be a must-listen on our playlist.
Sinner- Imcha Imchen
Released on February 14, the song Sinner by Imcha Imchen has reached a crowd of over one lakh viewers and for the right reasons. The pop song with catchy lyrics, beautifully curated video, and equally “tap-your-feet” beats simply cannot be out of your playlist if this is your genre.
It is said that for those who watch Virie’s live performance, he or she is left transfixed by her soulful voice. Premired on June 26, the video has garnered over 31K views. Her music gels the sublime with the surreal, creating a sound that is both melancholic and rhythmic at the same time.
