COVID-19 tally spiked to 8894 of which 3867 are security personnel, 1648 are returnees, 2946 are traced contacts and 433 cases of frontline workers

Kohima:Nagaland continues to witness a gradual spike in the number of COVID-19 deaths. One more COVID-19 death from Kohima has been confirmed on Thursday taking the death toll in the state to 29.

So far, 40 COVID-19 patients in the state of Nagaland has passed away. Out of this total, 29 are COVID-19 related death, six deaths are not COVID-19 related, and five deaths are still under investigation. Dimapur has reported the highest number of COVID-19 deaths.

As reported earlier, health officials in the state informed that there is a growing need for early detection of positive cases to control COVID-19 fatalities in the state.

Meanwhile, ­70 new cases of COVID-19 positive cases were detected on Thursday. Among these new cases, 19 are from Kohima, 46 are from Dimapur, one is from Longleng, three in Mon, and one is from Zunheboto.

The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in the state surged to 8,894. Out of this, 7,019 patients recovered, and 1,758 are active cases. As per the severity of symptoms among the active cases, 1,668 active cases are asymptomatic, 56 active cases are mild, 20 active cases are moderate on oxygen, four active case is severe on oxygen, six active cases are critical with oxygen and four active cases are on ventilator.

With the spike in the positivity rate, the health officials are working on intensifying testing. Principal secretary Home Abhijit Sinha said that till Thursday, a total of 61,242 samples have been sent for testing through RT-PCR and results of 60,194 samples have been received.

In addition, a total of 33,337 samples have been sent for testing on Truenat and results of 33,270 samples have been received. Through Rapid Antigen Test, 3,834 samples have also been tested.

Furthermore, out of the total positive cases in the state, the distribution across various categories of people are: 3,867 cases of armed forces/ police, 1,648 cases of returnees, 2,946 cases of traced contacts and 433 cases of frontline workers.
