Law students ask VC Nagaland University to revoke offline exam

The Kohima Law College sought written confirmation from the Nagaland University assuring safety of students if offline exams are conducted

Kohima:Threatening to boycott offline examinations, the Kohima Law College (KLC) students appealed to the vice-chancellor of Nagaland University (NU) to either revoke the examination order or conduct an online examination for the safety of students.

Through a memorandum submitted to the VC on Saturday, Kehozhol Noel Kulnu, convener KLC Grievances Committee, and Imkumer, Secretary KLC Grievances Committee, said that the University Grants Commission (UGC) decision to conduct offline exam is a "direct violation of SOPs laid down for the safety of the citizens".

The students said that the move to allow the gathering of a large number of examinees will only increase the risk of transmission of the COVID-19. The students also represented students who have retreated home to far and remote areas during the lockdown. It added that "travelling is made much inconvenient due to unavailability of means of transport".

The Students appealed the VC to "reconsider the decision and either revoke the examination order or make it an online examination for the safety of all involved". It said that if the university has decided to go ahead, it is compelled to "boycott the exams or seek a written confirmation" assuring the safety for students.

It added that in case of conducting examinations offline, the "university shall bear all the consequences if some misfortune befalls on any examinee".

The students said that conducting offline exams at this hour will only result in "catastrophic outcome" and that conducting offline exam cannot be an excuse, while there are "other ways to channelize the exam system as being followed/conducted by other institutes or courses".
