Nagaland: 2 held with ganja and heroin worth approx Rs 1.25 crore

Two persons were arrested by a team of Kohima excise, under the NDPS ACT 1985, after ganja and heroin worth approximately Rs 1.25 crores seized.

An official update from S Phyobemo Kikon, Assistsant Commissioner of Excise (Zonal) Kohima and Neiziezolie Angami, Deputy Superintendent of Excise Kohima said that on a tip-off, a special team of Kohima Excise intercepted a suspected truck bearing registration no NL-02 L 3168, near hydro along NH-2 on Thursday at around 11:30 pm.

The special team, on a thorough search of the vehicle, detected a specially modified chamber on the "front and rear side" of the vehicle filled with illegal contraband.

They recovered Twenty-seven packets of neatly packed ganja weighing 270 kg and 240 nos of soap cases filled with suspected heroin weighing around 2.4 kg. The estimated market value of the seized ganja and heroin is approximately Rs 1,25,40000.

The two accused persons were identified as Akash Devnath (34), son of Anil Devnath, and Jahangir (24), son of Abdul Rashid, both of whom are residents of 7th mile model Village in Dimapur. The arrest was made under charges of violation of NDPS ACT 1985 and the case is said to be under active investigation.
