Guwahati: It's a moment of pride for EastMojo as our Nagaland correspondent Medolenuo Ambrocia Loucu has been selected along with nine other journalists from the region for the prestigious The Zubaan-Sasakawa Peace Foundation Grants for Journalists from the Northeast 2020-21.

This grant is in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact brought down by the subsequent lockdown in the world of waged work; particularly freelance and independent media work. “Focusing on the Northeast and adjoining areas, this grant works in conjunction with our other grant opportunities for young researchers and women’s collectives in Northeast India,” said the foundation in a blog post.

One needed to be an early to mid-career journalist from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura to apply for the grant which carries Rs 30,000. One also needs to have a good command of the English language to be eligible for the grant. Additionally, after the selection is done the candidate must commit to publishing two articles (one must be at least of 800-1,000 words and the other must be a 2,000-2,500-word article) or a photo essay (of at least 10-12 photographs with explanatory captions) within the duration of the grant.

The duration is of four months and can be extended based on mutual agreement and prevailing circumstances. The blog post further stated, “This research grant, in its third year now, hopes to encourage young writers and researchers to contribute to the diversification of knowledge production. It is set against the broad framework/themes mentioned below which will be examined through the lens of gender in the Northeast.”

To be particular, the themes of the articles should focus more on gender and public space and gender and disability.

Additionally, all 10 successful candidates will be required to attend a preliminary methodology workshop/webinar. Along with it, there is also a mid-term online review where they will present a draft of their work in order to get feedback from peers and resource people. In the time remaining for the grant, candidates will be required to take the feedback on board and to finalise their papers.

Team EastMojo congratulates Medolenuo for her achievement and wishes her all the best.
