Nagaland: 38 new COVID-19 cases detected; Kiphire registers 1st case
29 from Dimapur, 7 from Kohima and 1 each from Kiphire & Wokha test positive for COVID-19; state tally hits 3,558

Kohima: Nagaland reported 38 new cases of COVID-19 in the state on Wednesday. Kiphire, which remained a COVID-19 free district so far, registered its first confirmed case of the novel coronavirus.

Out of the new cases that were detected, 29 are from Dimapur, seven are from Kohima and one each from Kiphire and Wokha. While four natives of Kiphire district were tested positive and have recovered before, this is the first time that a COVID-19 case has been detected from the district.

Principal director Dr Vizolie Suokhrie, during a press conference on Wednesday, confirmed that the first COVID-19 case detected from Kiphire is a returnee.

With the addition of the new cases, the state's tally has touched 3,558. The new case detected from Kiphire is a confirmatory result of the RT-PCR. The person had tested positive COVID-19 through TrueNat test earlier.

Nagaland health minister S Pangnyu Phom had taken to Twitter to inform that the new cases were detected out of 615 samples that were sent for testing.

"Update! 38 new +ve cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed out of 615 samples tested. 29 in Dimapur, 7 in Kohima & 1each in Kiphire & Wokha. Necessary contact tracing have been activated and all primary contacts are under self isolation," the minister wrote.

The current status of COVID-19 in Nagaland is:

Confirmed: 3,558

Active: 1,880

recovered: 1,664

Death: 7 (One death which is COVID-19 but not due to COVID-19 has not been reflected in the tally).

Migrated: 6

In the past five days, Nagaland has reported 390 new cases of COVID-19 and 523 COVID-19 recovered cases. As on Wednesday, Phek and Longleng are the only districts in the state with no current active cases of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the principal director also told media persons that all sample backlogs in the state are to be cleared by Wednesday.
