Nagaland: 54 new COVID-19 cases detected; state tally hits 3,394

Of 54 new COVID-19 cases detected in state, 26 are from Kohima, 21 from Dimapur and 7 from Zunheboto; tally soars to 3,394

Kohima: Fifty-four new cases of COVID-19 were detected in Nagaland on Sunday out of 599 samples that were tested. Out of the new cases, 26 are from Kohima, 21 from Dimapur and seven are from Zunheboto.

With the addition of the new cases, the number of confirmed cases in Dimapur district is now nearing the 2,000-mark with a total of 1,739 cases, out of which 1225 are active, eight died, 504 recovered and two migrated. All deaths reported in the state so far are from Dimapur. However, only seven deaths are established as COVID-19 death.

Meanwhile, Kohima is nearing the 1,000 mark with 911 confirmed cases in the district, of which 606 are currently active. Zunheboto district is witnessing a gradual spike in the number of COVID-19 cases with 98 cases so far of which 82 are active.

Taking to Twitter, Nagaland health minister S Pangnyu Phom informed about the new cases "Update! 54 new +ve cases of COVID-19 have been detected out of 599 samples tested. 26 in Kohima, 21 in Dimapur & 7 in Zunheboto. Necessary contact tracing have activated. Wear Mask, Keep Distance, Stay Safe," the minister tweeted.

The current COVID-19 status in Nagaland is:

Confirmed: 3394

Active: 2059

Recovered: 1321

Migrated: 6

Death: 7 (One death is COVID-19 positive but not due to COVID-19. Therefore, it is not reflected in the tally).

As mentioned above, seven deaths were certified by the State COVID-19 Death Review Committee as Covid-19 death. COVID Deaths are established by the State Committee as per ICMR protocol and WHO ICD-10 classification. The mortality rate in Nagaland is 0.21%.

According to the health department, diabetes, hypertension, tuberculosis, chronic heart /liver diseases are the identified comorbidities in the confirmed cases. The COVID-19 deaths and comorbidities data showed that 86% are comorbid. As per the data, it reiterated that high risk groups with comorbid conditions are the most vulnerable, although young healthy people are not invincible to the disease.

The state is maintaining a higher testing rate than the country at 22.54 per thousand against the country’s rate of 21.20. The low recovery rate is more to do with a stringent discharge policy in the state, as per the medical department.

While the state's positivity rate is 6.7, the positivity rate in Dimapur district is the highest with 9.33 followed by Peren with 8.32 and 7.89 for Zunheboto. 6.95 is the positivity rate in Kohima.
