Nagaland: 50 more persons test positive for COVID-19; 4 recover

Kohima: Fifty more persons tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday, taking the state's tally to 1,289. The new cases of COVID-19 have been detected out of 344 samples that were sent for testing.

Out of the 50 new cases, 20 are from Mon, 19 from Dimapur, seven from Kohima and four from Mokokchung. Meanwhile, another four persons recovered from COVID-19 on Saturday, taking the number of recovered cases to 541.

As reported earlier, three persons who passed away had tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday taking the death toll to four. "However, investigation is on and subject to further verification to establish the link with COVID-19 as comorbid conditions were present," Nagaland health minister tweeted in regard to the deaths.

The present recovery rate is 42%. As per the severity of symptoms out of 744 active cases, 740 persons are asymptomatic, two are mild symptomatic, one is moderate symptomatic and one is critical in the ICU on ventilator.

Till Saturday, a total of 836 returnees, 386 armed forces, 33 frontline workers and 34 traced contacts have tested positive for COVID-19 cumulatively.

As per the age wise distribution for the total confirmed cases, 28 are between 0-17 years, 1153 between 18-44 years, 103 between 45-64 years, three between 65-74 years and two above 75 years. As per the distribution by gender, 1036 are male and 253 are female.

Till date, a total of 20,866 samples have been sent for testing through RT-PCR and results of 19,662 samples have been received. Out of the 13,583 samples received at the BSL-3 lab at the Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK), a total of 12,491 samples have been tested and 798 samples have tested positive.

In addition, a total of 14,396 samples have been sent for testing on Truenat. 13,583 samples have tested negative, and 476 samples have tested positive which have been sent for confirmation by RT-PCR. A total of 2,576 persons are presently under Facility Quarantine, informed Principal Secretary Home Abhijit Sinha.

As per the weekly bulletin of the Health & Family Welfare, the tests per thousand in the state is 15, which is higher than the country’s testing rate of 11.77. In the past week, the state’s positivity rate is recorded at 3.77 % which is significantly lower than the country’s rate of 8.43 %.

The data showed that it took 13 days for the state to reach 100 cases from May 25 to June 6. The current doubling rate is around 15 days. The past week also recorded the highest single spike in a day with 90 cases on July 23 of which maximum cases were from employees of a private sector company in quarantine.

7,139 contacts traced so far

Till date a total of 7,139 contacts have been traced through contact tracing and 2,212 contacts have been listed as high risk. During this week, 29% of positive cases are from the armed forces, 66% are returnees, 3% are traced contacts, 2% are frontline workers. Ten positive cases have chronic diseases like cancer, TB, diabetes, it informed.
