Health & family welfare department however notifies that the latest death is yet to be 'established as due to COVID-19'
Kohima: The latest update from the health department showed that Nagaland reported its first death on Friday. However, with an 'asterisk' mark, it said that the reported death from Dimpaur is yet to be established as due to COVID-19. On Friday, Nagaland also reported 65 new cases, besides seven patients recovering from the coronavirus.
A health official confirmed that the death is related to a 50-year-old man who passed away on July 19 while admitted at the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Medziphema under Dimapur district. Although the TruenNat test of the person was declared negative that day, the RT-PCR result which was declared on Friday has been reported as positive for COVID-19.
Out of the 65 new cases, one is a frontline worker, 32 are armed forces personnel, 25 are returnees including eight non-resident technical persons on duty, and seven are persons through traced contacts. As per the district wise break-up for the new confirmed cases, 41 are from Dimapur, 21 from Kohima, two from Peren and one from Tuensang.
The addition of the new cases has taken the state's tally to 1,239. Out of that, 819 are returnees, 359 are armed forces personnel, 30 are frontline workers and 31 are through traced contacts.
Meanwhile, a letter to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Dimapur from the Senior Medical Officer (SMO) CHC Medziphema, informed that a 50-year-old male patient was a resident of New Chumukedima "who was unattended and sick" and was admitted at CHC Medziphema on July 19 and the sample of the person tested as negative on TrueNat test that day.
The person died on July 21. The sample test from the BSL-2 (RT-PCR) report received on Friday declared the person as positive for COVID-19. Following this, the SMO appealed the CMO to seal the Community Health Centre and arrange quarantine centre for the medical staff and all primary contacts.

As per the severity of symptoms out of 701 active cases, 697 persons are asymptomatic, two are mild symptomatic, one is moderate symptomatic and one is critical in the ICU on ventilator.
As per the age wise distribution for the total confirmed cases, 28 are between 0-17 years, 1116 between 18-44 years, 92 between 45-64 years, two between 65-74 years and one above 75 years. As per the distribution by gender, 995 are male and 144 are female.
