Kohima: Joining the Indian National Congress' (INC) nationwide agitation against the rising prices of petrol and diesel on Monday, Nagaland Pradesh Youth Congress (NPYC) organised a poster campaign in Kohima to protest against the price hike asking the state government to roll back cess levied on petroleum.

NPYC president Vilhousielie Kenguruse condemned the "irrational and dumb act of the state government in levying cess on petrol and diesel at this time of crisis" terming it is as "insane".

Interacting with media persons, Kenguruse said that "continuous price hike of petrol and diesel prices is a cruel decision against the common public and is hampering the lives of the public".

"I wonder, what do PM Modi and BJP government have against the common people of the nation? Why is every action of theirs a punishment for the Indian people?" he questioned.

Kenguruse said that due to price hike in petroleum, there is price hike in essential commodities and urged both the central and state government to immediately roll back the price hike in petrol and diesel in the interest of the public and to “stop looting common people and rollback petroleum price hike”.

While he urged the state government to rollback the COVID-19 cess levied on petroleum products, he also appealed the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) and the deputy commissioner to regulate and monitor the price hike on essential commodities.

Following the press interaction, the NPYC headed to the petrol pumps in Kohima and put up posters which showed price comparisons of fuel price hike between the UPA government and the NDA government. He said that a protest will also be organized in Dimapur.

Meanwhile, as on Monday, fuel price in Nagaland is Rs 86.52 for petrol and Rs 78.74 for diesel.
