Dimapur: In an appeal on Friday, the Dimapur Naga Students' Union (DNSU) urged the state government and the educational institutions concerned to make some relaxations to students for their welfare amid the COVID-19 crisis.

DNSU, the apex students' body of Nagaland's Dimapur district, issued a press release through which it apprised the state government and the educational institutions of Nagaland on issues pertaining to students.

In the press release, the DNSU appealed "the state government to make some relaxation for the border areas of Dimapur where thousands of students are stranded and unable to come to Dimapur for admission and various other purposes due to closure of all entry points".

Keeping in mind the newly passed students seeking admission in various schools and colleges in the state, the students' body further appealed "to all schools (including CBSE board) /colleges (including Autonomous) as well not to charge an exorbitant amount for issuing prospectus/registration forms. While some top educational institutions in Nagaland are charging maximum ₹200-₹300 only, there are some that need to show leniency so the Union appeals the intervention of PCAN and ANPSA".

The apex student body in Dimapur also appealed Nagaland University to come out with clear-cut information for all under-graduate, post-graduate and other related courses once and for all, so that the students will be prepared in all aspects for any eventuality as many will be going for further studies and are getting delayed for admission to their next classes.

Keeping the prevailing situation in mind, the DNSU also appealed the state government to provide relief funds, especially to private institutions, as they are severely hit due to the pandemic.

The DNSU also started a new initiative -- ‘Project DUO’. The project will link two students who will become friends and help each other by donating their books -- the senior student giving it to his junior. "All kind of books will be received and a proper record will be maintained," the DNSU said.

DNSU further appealed all the parents to be considerate as well towards the educational institutions on their end as they are also saving financially through their children in terms of conveyance fare/fuel, pocket money, tiffin expenses, among many others.
