Kohima: A 21-year-old youth, who had returned from Uttar Pradesh and was under facility quarantine at K Badze quarantine centre in Kohima, “went missing” from the place around 1:30 pm on Sunday. Police sources told EastMojo on Monday that the person is yet to be traced.

According to a letter issued by Dr Shasinlo Magh, the 21-year-old is a returnee from Uttar Pradesh and is supposed to be headed to Manipur. He was admitted to the quarantine centre on May 24.

“The inmate admitted at K Badze quarantine centre has been missing from QC on 31st May 2020 at around 1:30 PM. On spot verification, it was found that the inmate broke open the grill of the window and escaped through it as reported by the security,” the letter addressed to the chief medical officer said.

Meanwhile, police sources confirmed EastMojo that the person is yet to be traced -- till the filing of this report. The police added that this is the second escape made by the person from the quarantine centre.During the first escape on May 29, the person was caught by youths from a village who reported the matter to the police.

When contacted, Shanavs C, nodal officer for COVID-19 activities outside the state, said that the police are investigating on how the person bound for Manipur boarded. Shanavas also said that one of the contact numbers provided by the returnee is an invalid number and the other is switched off. “So we have to go for the last location. But the police are on the job,” he assured.

A reliable source said that the UP returnee who was bound for Manipur is a mentally challenged person and that he may have boarded the transportation meant for Kohima unknowingly.
