Nagaland Class XII exams: Girls shine in science, commerce streams

Class XII Board exam results declared in Nagaland; overall percentage in Arts stream is 71.87%, commerce 75.47% and science 80.99%

Kohima: The Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) on Thursday announced the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) Examinations 2020 (Class XII Board exams) results in which a total of 15,461 students in Arts, Science and Commerce enrolled for the examination held from February 13 to March 4 this year.

The overall percentage in Arts stream is 71.87%, that of commerce is 75.47% and science is 80.99%. Eight institutions under arts stream, six institutions under science and five under commerce stream secured 100% pass results.

In the arts stream, the pass percentage for girls is 77.24 %, as compared to 65.51% of the boys. With 90.03%, girl students out-shined the boys, who recorded 75.07%. However, in the commerce stream, boys performed better with 68.99%, as compared to the girls with 66.44 %.

“It is heartening to mention that there are two toppers from Government Higher Secondary Schools in the Merit list at the HSSLC Examination 2020,” NBSE chairman Asano Sekhose said.

Of the top 10, Chumliba from Loyola Higher Secondary School in Kiphire topped the arts stream with 92.00%; Ichha Upadhyay from Christian Higher Secondary School in Dimapur with 98.80% topped the commerce stream; and Anushka Bhattacharjee of Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School in Dimapur topped the science stream securing 95.20%.

In the arts stream, a total of 16 students made it to the top 10 list out of which 13 are girls and three are boys. With 12 toppers in commerce, eight are girls and four are boys. Of the 11 toppers in science stream, six are girls and the rest five are boys.

The marksheets for the HSSLC exams will be issued from June 5.

As educational institutions in Nagaland continue to remain closed, Sekhose said that the board has been recommending the use of e-learning apps for secondary and higher secondary classes in all subjects (course). She said that the board has requested the government to include the syllabus for Class XI in the online classes to ensure that the students are not deprived of the academic year.
