DGP assures, instructs stringent action against persons spreading rumours over confirmed cases of coronavirus aka COVID-19 in the state

Kohima: Nagaland chief secretary Temjen Toy on Monday notified immediate action against culprits spreading rumours around a confirmed case of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the state.

A notification issued by Toy on March 16 read: “At a time when every agency of the government of Nagaland along with associate NGOs are taking all measures to prevent as well as prepare the state in its combat against the spread of COVID-19, it is most unfortunate that some unscrupulous persons are spreading rumours and creating panic through the use of social media regarding infections confirmed in the state.”

“All steps be taken to ensure that such persons are immediately booked and action taken as per appropriate sections of law. Necessary clearances be taken for identification of such elements,” it added.

Further, he ordered that the latest report be submitted by 9 am of March 17, after which reports are to be updated on a 12-hourly basis.

Meanwhile, it is informed that the state’s DGP has assured and instructed for stringent action against persons spreading rumours.

A statement from the principal Director of Health and Family Welfare, Dr Vizolie Z Suokhrie notified that testing of samples is done only in government facilities duly certified by the MoHFW, Government of India. Its said that private hospitals are not mandated to conduct testing for COVID-19.

Suokhrie further notified that sample collection, transportation and testing will be done through the state’s health department and that identified testing centres will reject any samples from any other sources. So far, no samples from the state has been sent for testing.
