Dimapur Naga Students’ Union serves 7-day ultimatum to excise commissioner to shut all liquor shops, or dept will be held ‘solely responsible for untoward consequences’
Dimapur: The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) and its constituent units on Friday issued a seven-day ultimatum to the commissioner of excise to close down all liquor shops and outlets in the district, failing which the department "will be held solely responsible for any untoward consequences".
The resolution was made at DNSU's fourth 'presidential meeting' on February 10. During the meeting, the union brought up the matter of the negative impact of alcohol among the youths and students, and the public in general, despite the fact that the state government had implemented the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act, 1989.
In a press release issued on Friday, the apex students' body in Dimapur further warned the department saying “failure to comply with this ultimatum, the union will take its own course of action for which the concerned department will be held solely responsible for any untowards consequences”.
