After winning 2 matches, Nagaland is leading table with 6 points in Group A, followed by Manipur at 4, Arunachal Pradesh at 1 & Tripura yet to open account
Kohima: In the ongoing North East Dr T Ao Trophy, Nagaland football team secured a semi final berth on Wednesday after its thumping victory over Tripura 13-0.
While Tripura failed to open an account in its second match, Nagaland’s forward Rhitsho Mero scored the first goal in the 10th minute. Out of the total scores, Mero recorded five goals and this was followed by skipper Khwetelhi Thopi with four.
The other goal scorers included Haotinmang Thomsong,, Sinenlo Kath, Ratobe N Poireng, and Kethosilie Zatsu. In the first match played against Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland won by 4-1. Tripura, in its first match against Manipur, lost the game by 0-11.
Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur ended in a stalemate with both sides scoring one each. Manipur’s M Clinton Singh and Arunachal Pradesh’s Charu Lalum scored the solitary goal for its teams.
Till the third day of the tournament, Nagaland is leading the table at six points, followed by Manipur at four, Mizoram and Sikkim at three, Arunachal Pradesh at one, and Tripura, Assam and Meghalaya still at 0.
On January 24, Tripura will next play against Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland will play against Manipur. The next matches on Thursday will be played between Sikkim Vs Meghalaya, and Mizoram Vs Assam.
Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur match ended in a draw with both sides scoring a goal each on Wednesday. Manipur’s M Clinton Singh and Arunachal Pradesh’s Charu Lalum scored a goal each during the match.
The last league matches for Group A will be played on January 24. In the first match, Arunachal Pradesh will play against Tripura at 2 pm, while Nagaland takes on Manipur at 4:30 pm.
