The smuggled items were being transported in 9 trucks; stopped at a mobile vehicle check-post near Pherima; 19 persons accompanying the trucks arrested
Dimapur: Assam Rifles troops recently seized smuggled Burmese teak worth over Rs 2 crore from nine trucks at a mobile vehicle check-post near Pherima in Nagaland’s Dimapur district. Nineteen persons accompanying the trucks in which the teak was being transported have been apprehended, an official statement from the defence PRO said.
The statement said that based on specific inputs, the troops at the check-post stopped nine loaded trucks travelling from Kohima to Dimapur. On spot verification, they recovered 3,600 cubic ft of Burmese teak worth over Rs 2 crore from them.
Further, the recovered teak and the apprehended individuals were handed to East Police Station in Dimapur for further investigation.
