Bharat bandh: Nagaland postal division joins nationwide strike

Kohima: Altogether 286 postal branch offices in Nagaland remained closed on Wednesday as the All India Postal Employees Union (P-III, P-IV and GDS) Nagaland Division joined the nation-wide strike called by nine Central trade unions.

Employees from four units— Railway mail services, P-III, P-IV and GDS, jointly gathered outside the Kohima Head Post Office to join the Bharat bandh.

The 24-hour all-India strike began from the first working shift starting at 6 am on Wednesday morning. The workers protested against the Central government policies and further pressed for 11-point common demands of the working class.

The 11 points demand are:

1. Scrap New Pension Scheme and restore sold Pension Scheme

2. Honour assurance given by group of Ministers (GoM) to NJCA leaders on 30-6-2016. Minimum pay and fitment formula.

3. Filling up vacant posts in Central Government Department

4. Stop privatisation, corporatisation of central Govt. Departments & PSUs. Remove 5% ceiling on compassionate appointment

5. Grant five promotions in service career

6. Withdraw “very good” bench mark for MACP. Grant promotional hierarchy and date of effect from 25.7.2016

7. Grant civil servant status to GDS

8. Scrap Citizenship Amendment Act 2019

9. Withdraw anti-worker labour codes and labour reforms

10. Settle all problems arisen out of implementation of CSI, RICT/IPPB/CBS

11. Withdraw draconian FR 56(J) and Rule 48 of CCS (Pension Rule 1972)

Altogether 41 post offices that are operational in the state remained closed. It was informed that while the state official records have 287 postal branches, one branch falls under Assam.
