Kohima: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against Vijay Farmana, a hitman who was allegedly paid to kill a ‘high-profile’ Naga politician after the Lok Sabha elections in May last year.

The gangster had reportedly struck a 'deal' to kill the politician for Rs 80 lakh and a Ford Endeavour car after the 2019 general elections. The plot to kill the politician emerged after Delhi Police's crime branch arrested Farmana on May 17 last year from Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow where he had gone to meet his girlfriend.

Reports said that the home ministry, taking serious note of the case, had asked the CBI to take over the probe into the case on July 31. However, the identity of the politician was not disclosed.

Farmana's arrest in May last year had shaken the state as the state government sounded high alert to enhance security measures in the state, following the reports being confirmed.

As per reports, Farmana and his two associates had taken a contract in April last year to kill a Naga politician and that his associates were paid Rs 80 Lakh and a ford Endeavour car for the job.

It was also reported that Farmana and his associates -- Sharad Pandey and Kapil Chintania -- visited Nagaland in April last year and accepted a contract to kill a ‘high-profile’ politician. However, the name of the ‘top’ politician who paid for the hit job and to whom it was targeted was not revealed by the police due to case sensitivity.

Farmana, as per the Delhi Police, is a graduate from Chhotu Ram Arya Jat College in Sonepat, Haryana and has accepted his involvement in 11 murders, of which three were triple murders committed in Haryana and a rape reported from Begampur, Delhi.
