Nagaland opposition party slams Rajya Sabha MP KG Kenye & Lok Sabha MP Dr Lorho Pfoze for ‘total defiance’ of party’s ‘resolutions’; asks them to submit reply by Dec 26
Kohima: The Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC) of the Naga People's Front (NPF), the main opposition party, on Thursday issued show cause notice to its Members of Parliament -- KG Kenye (Rajya Sabha) and Dr Lorho S Pfoze (Lok Sabha) -- for voting in favour of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) in both Houses of Parliament on December 12.
Separate notices were issued by DAC chairman Blaise Iheilung and secretary Tsumongo Ovung to both the members. The notice said that in “total defiance” of the party’s ‘resolutions’, the members voted in “favour” of the CAB/CAA 2019 on December 12 in the Upper House of Parliament.
It said that the DAC held a meeting on Thursday at its central office in Kohima to deliberate on the action of its Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha MPs in the recent Parliament session on CAB/CAA issue.
The notices reminded Kenye and Pfoze that the party tickets were issued to them, following which they were both elected as Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) from Nagaland and Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from Outer Manipur Parliamentary seat, respectively.
“The ‘core committee’ in its meeting held on January 30, 2019 and the Central Executive Council (CEC) on January 31, 2019 passed a resolution and on both the meetings resolved to oppose the CAB/CAA. The same resolutions were reiterated in the party’s consultative meeting held on March 30, 2019 at the NPF central office Kohima,” it said.
The notices addressed to both Kenye and Lorho said that with their current position as the party’s secretary general and core committee member, respectively, it is expected of them “to act/vote in consonance with the standing resolutions of the party”.
It said that in “total defiance of the party’s resolutions”, the members have voted in “favour of the CAB/CAA 2019 on December 12, 2019” in both Houses of Parliament.
“Therefore, you are directed to show Cause as to why Disciplinary Action should not be initiated against you. You are further directed to submit your reply within seven days from the date of issue of this notice, i.e., on or before December 26, 2019,” it added.
