The rebel -- identified as Dharmendra Sonowar -- was arrested from lower Tiru area; one .22 pistol with magazine, five live rounds of ammunition seized
Kohima: Troops of the Indian Army and the Assam Rifles (AR) apprehended an ULFA-I rebel from general area of lower Tiru under Mon district of Nagaland recently.
An official statement from the IGAR (North) PRO said that continuing with the crackdown on illegal activities, the militant -- identified as Dharmendra Sonowar, 38 -- was apprehended with arms and ammunition on Monday.
It said that based on specific intelligence about the presence of Sonowar in general area of lower Tiru in Mon district, troops of Indian Army and Assam Rifles launched a joint search operation on Monday and Tuesday.
The statement said that the ULFA linkman is the son of Nareshwar Sonowar and is a resident of Singlopather in Charaideo district of Assam.
One .22 pistol with magazine, five live rounds of .22 mm have been recovered. An extortion case was also registered. The apprehended rebel along with the recovered items were handed over to Naginimora police station on Tuesday for further investigation.
