Guwahati: "The negotiation has ended with a positive note... we are extremely happy and we welcome it," said Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio on the Naga peace talks that were concluded in New Delhi on October 31.

Speaking with EastMojo on the sidelines of 7th Young Leaders Connect in New Delhi on Saturday, the chief minister expressed happiness about the decisions of the closed-door meeting on October 31 which is a major move towards a final settlement of the 22-year-old Naga issue.

The Centre has reportedly decided to accept the demands of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) over a separate Naga flag and constitution but with certain pre-conditions, a source told EastMojo.

On whether an agreement can be signed anytime soon, Rio said, no, that the competent authority will decide of what is to be inked. "I don’t know how long will it take but things are going on smoothly so let’s hope it will end soon."

Though the course to the final inking of the agreement is not yet decided, states like Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam need to be taken in the loop as their 'territorial integrity' comes at stake.

Also, when asked about reports that Nagaland deputy chief minister Y Patton is meeting senior opposition leaders to topple Rio, the chief minister said, "I have nothing to say about that".
