Kohima: The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) on Wednesday held the first phase of its “democratic agitation against the inaction of the government of Nagaland for setting up a Staff Selection Board (SSB)”.

A press release issued by NSF vice president Dievi Yano and general secretary Liremo Kikon said that it received “overwhelming response from the students’ community and the general public of the state”.

As per the apex body’s directive, students of various schools, colleges and universities wore black band/badge along with the uniforms to “register their resentment against the state government to respond positively to their aspiration for promoting meritocracy in the state”.

The NSF reiterated that the first phase of the democratic agitation shall be carried forward for an indefinite period of time. It threatened that if the state government continues to remain indifferent to this cause, the federation shall be compelled to take up the second phase of agitation.

It assured that the nature of the next agitation shall be made known to the general public in due course of time.

It also appealed all students and the general public to support the federation in this “journey until the desired result is achieved”.
