94 bonded labourers from Assam, Nagaland rescued in Gujarat

Kohima: 94 bonded labourers, including 12 minors, were rescued by the Gujarat Police from a chemical factory in Kathwada area of Ahmedabad on Saturday.

As per reports, the police were alarmed about bonded labourers at a chemical factory in Kathwada area on Friday.

Ahmedabad Zone-5 DCP Akshayraj Makwana was quoted saying: "Initially, we thought there were 30 of them but after reaching the premises, we rescued 94 persons from there, of which 12 are minors.”

"The labourers were brought from Nagaland and Assam. They were neither being paid nor were they allowed to go home or outside. We have registered a case into the matter," said Makwana.

Meanwhile, the owners of the factory are being interrogated by the police and a case has been registered for further investigation.
