Kohima: The First Naga Baptist Church (FNBC), which was launched at Dallas Fort Worth (DFW), Texas, US, on November 4 last year, was officially inaugurated on August 11.

With over 150 people attending the ceremony, the church was officially inaugurated in the presence of Rev Dr Zelhou Keyho, general secretary of the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC); representatives from Manipur and Myanmar; and the parent convention and the host church -- Burton Baptist Church.

Keyho told EastMojo that the host church -- Burton Baptist Church -- had given their facility to the First Naga Baptist Church last year. "The church is officially registered under the Conference of Dallas Baptist Convention which is also an affiliate body of the Baptist World Alliance," added Keyho.

The Church has over 70 Naga families, which include students as well. "The purpose is not only to cater to the Nagas in the area but also to reach out to the unchurched from other communities as well. True to this purpose, the FNBC at DFW saw members of different ethnic communities and the Americans in their worship," Keyho said.

Keyho, who was the key speaker at the inauguration, reminded the congregation that the church belongs to God and that one must be faithful, focused and allow the grace and love of God. He hoped that the church will be a blessing to other communities as well.

In this regard, he told EastMojo: "The gospel came to the Northeast region and the Nagas are fortunate to receive it, the gospel of love and grace basing on Isaiah 9:2 and 1Peter 2:10."

He then said that the establishment of the FNBC at DFW "is a continuation of God's purpose to reach out to the world and continue in the missional task of the church".

Lauding the commitment of pastor of FNBC Lanutenzuk Lemtur, Keyho expressed the need to support the leadership and the church in prayer.
