Shootout took place at residence of Khekato Kinny, a self-styled ‘kilonser’ of the Naga outfit’s Reformation faction, in Dimapur on Aug 20; CCTV footage now doing rounds of social media
Guwahati: First visuals (CCTV footage) from the August 20 encounter between members of NSCN-IM and NSCN-R that took place at the residence of Khekato Kinny, a self-styled supervisor-cum-defence ‘kilonser’ of the Naga insurgent outfit’s Reformation faction, in Dimapur have now surfaced on social media platforms.
In the encounter that took place at Thilixu Village Block 1 in Nagaland’s Dimapur, Kinny sustained a leg injury. The encounter was later condemned by NSCN-R which alleged that it was an assassination attempt on the outfit’s leader.
In response to the allegation made by the NSCR-R, the ‘ministry of information and publicity’ of the NSCN-IM in a press release later said that its intention was not to kill the NSCN-R leader. "There was no order to shoot Khekato (Kinny). But guilty conscience took control of Khekato who directed his boys not to entertain Col Khehoto in his house and in panic started firing from behind the gate forcing our boys to retaliate. The bullets whizzed past Col Khehoto's head,” the statement said.
In its press release, the NSCN-IM also said that it had no desire to resort to this "harsh step”, that too without any reason. "During our investigation, we got hold of one of his men who spilled out Khekato's involvement. To kill Khekato was not our mission. Had our motive been to kill him, we could have adopted other recourse that would not miss him,” its statement said.
