‘Assassination’ attempt on defence ‘kilonser’ Khekato Kinny in Dimapur, Nagaland; comes at a time when Nagas are trying to hammer out political solution with Centre
Dimapur: A self-styled defence 'kilonser' (minister) of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN)/ Government of the People’s Republic of Nagaland/Nagalim (GPRN)(Reformation) was allegedly shot by rebels belonging to the NSCN(IM) at his residence in Dimapur, Nagaland around 5 pm on Tuesday.
As per reports, the senior leader -- Khekato Kinny -- has been injured in his leg and is stated to be out of danger. Some NSCN(IM) rebels also reportedly got some injuries after they were fired upon in retaliation. However, this was not independently confirmed by EastMojo till the filing of this report.
The incident reportedly took place in Thilixu Village block 1 in Dimapur.
Meanwhile, taking to social media, the NSCN/GPRN (Reformation)'s 'ministry of information & publicity’ took to social media to condemn the incident. "The NSCN/GPRN (Reformation) vehemently condemns assassination attempt without any provocations on UT1 Supervisor and Defence Kilonser, Khekato Kinny who sustained injuries perpetrated by the NSCN (IM) led by one Col. Khehoto of Kichilimi Village who came with his boys at around 05:00 PM on August 20 and blindly fired without taking any regards and exception, that Khekato was with his family and Children [sic]," the statement said, adding: "The NSCN wandered as to what was the reason behind the offensive action, especially at the time Nagas when Nagas were yearning for peace and trying to hammer out Political Solution with the GoI [sic]."
"The NSCN is also well equipped to be defensive and will go to any extent to thwart any threat directed towards us, but is restraining to the most possible extent due to Naga people's call for peace [sic]," the statement further added.
