FPAI installs 1st sanitary napkin-making machine in Nagaland

Members of Family Planning Association of India’s state unit get trained in functioning of different machinery related to making of sanitary napkins in Kohima

Kohima: The Family Planning Association of India (FPAI) installed its first ever sanitary napkin making machine and acquired training on manufacturing sanitary napkins during a two-day training programme held at Muskan Youth Centre in Kohima, Nagaland on Thursday and Friday.

Ghanshyam, trainer, SA Enterprise, and Birise Sangtam, Scout/F - Researcher NIF, Guwahati Cell- Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG), conducted the training, said a press statement issued by FPAI Nagaland branch programme officer Akangkokla Namo.

The staff and youth volunteers of FPAI state unit led by general manager Vincent Belho, were trained in the experiential learning of the functions and purposes of different machineries and the process of preparing sanitary napkins.

The statement read, "Ever since the establishment of the branch of Family Association of India (FPAI), Nagaland in 1978; the association has been actively engaging in promoting access to sexual reproductive health information and services and family planning. FPA India’s work include programmes and services covering maternal and child survival, male involvement, adolescent-friendly health services and youth empowerment with special focus on women's health and economy, HIV/AIDS, gender equality."

"FPA India Nagaland branch has taken another social enterprise with the introduction of sanitary napkin making machine through the support of National Innovation Foundation of India, Guwahati Cell. This innovative step is expected to be a tool for the enhancement of the programmes and activities in regard to women empowerment policies of the association. Good health and economic prosperity", it said.
