Kohima: Interlocutor for Naga peace talks RN Ravi was on Saturday appointed as the new governor of Nagaland by the President of India.

In a press communique issued on Saturday, President Ram Nath Kovind appointed Ravi, a 1976-batch Indian Police Service officer (retired) of the Kerala cadre, as the governor of Nagaland. Ravi will replace PB Acharya, who is the current governor of Nagaland and Manipur.

Ravi, who is the deputy national security adviser (NSA), took over as Centre’s representative for Naga peace talks in 2014.

In October last year, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved redesignating Ravi as the deputy NSA (internal affairs) and as interlocutor of the government in Nagaland. In August the same year, Ravi was given an extension as the government’s representative for the ongoing talks with Naga insurgent group National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-IM).

Meanwhile, the press communique issued on Saturday also mentioned the appointment of governors for other five states, including Tripura.

The statement further read: "The above appointments will take effect from the dates they assume charge of their respective offices.”
