Kohima: Expediting its investigation process into the consecutive firing incidents in Dimapur recently, the Nagaland government has set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to be headed by a deputy commissioner of police (DCP).

The police are also thoroughly analysing the images of the CCTVs installed at various locations in zeroing in on the vehicles allegedly used by the miscreants in the firing incidents that took place on the nights of June 5 and 6 at separate locations of Dimapur.

While Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) secretary general Abu Metha's house was targeted on the evening of June 5, miscreants fired outside the residential gate of another party leader, Aonglenden MLA Sharingain Longkumer, at Darogapahar village in Nagaland's Dimapur district the next evening on June 6.

Expressing serious concern over the security scenario, Nagaland Director General of Police (DGP) T John Longkumer held an emergency meeting with the Dimapur police commissioner and senior officers on Friday and reviewed various security measures to be taken in the district.

However, no breakthrough has been made on the case till the filing of this report.

Meanwhile, the state government has appealed the people to come forward to help the government to achieve success in the investigation process.

Suitable monetary rewards would also be given to any responsible citizen who can divulge credible information/inputs which can lead to arrest or prevent commission of further cognizable crimes, the state government said assuring that the anonymity of the informant would not be divulged.

Talking to the EastMojo, the Nagaland Police PRO said that the state government has decided to set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to be headed by a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) to investigate into the consecutive firing incidents.
“To ensure better deliverance of security services to the public, reinforcement of manpower in the form of Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBs) has also been ordered to deter further erosion of law and order. DGP Nagaland has also approved the provision of 50 new two-wheeler to form a motorcycle squad to assist the already existing machinery in place in the district,” a statement issued by the government said.

“Further, to enhance the firepower capacity of the district force, 50 Glock-17 pistols have been provided. DGP stressed that all these new assets, manpower and new security network should be implemented within a week. It was also decided to reinforce the beat patrolling system within the district for more effective policing,” it stated.

In addition, 40 new communication sets were provided and an amount of Rs 5 lakh was sanctioned to procure new high capacity CCTVs which would be placed at strategic locations to aid intelligence collection and also assist investigation.
A new police assistant/beat post was also established in the vicinity of NRL Petrol Pump, 2 ½ Mile, it added.
