Nagaland guv felicitates Konyak women for Guinness World Record

PB Acharya honours group for breaking the world record for the ‘largest Konyak traditional dance’ at Mon town in the state on April 5 this year

Kohima: At a culmination programme held at the Durbar Hall in Raj Bhavan, Kohima on Wednesday, Nagaland governor PB Acharya felicitated the Konyak women for achieving the 'largest Konyak traditional dance' at the Guinness World Records recently.

Speaking on the occasion, Acharya expressed his happiness and further mentioned that all Nagas were proud of the women who broke the world record. He then handed over a hornbill memento to the president of the Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong (KNSK), the apex body of Konyak women, to mark the achievement.

Dancing for 5:01 minutes, 4,687 Konyak women set the Guinness World Record for the ‘largest Konyak traditional dance’ on April 5. Clad in traditional attire, the women grooved in rhythm to a traditional number during the last day of the three-day long Aoleng Mini Hornbill Festival in Mon town. Organised under the theme, 'Empowering women for cultural heritage', the day was marked to create women empowerment while preserving culture and tradition by creating a footprint for the future generations.

While the Konyak Union, the apex body of the tribe, received the confirmation on April 9, the official announcement was made through a press release on April 10.
