Dipping her toes in the field of Rn’B, singer Sampriti Dastidar brings in a fresh RN’B sound to Assamese music, who just released her debut single Endhaar Sampriti Dastidar in a tête-à-tête with VibesMojo talked about the complexities of love and longing that Endhaar is all about.
Sampriti Dastidar shared that she wrote the lyrics when the world was going through a lockdown. “My song highlights the feelings of loneliness, insecurity and most importantly, hope, in a romantic way,” she said.
“I love how music brings people together. I recorded the scratch for Endhaar during the lockdown in my bedroom, and the project grew wings over the phone and the internet. Conceptualising Endhaar has been nothing but therapeutic for me during those tough days, right from recording the audio to discussing ideas with the team for the music video shoot. It made me realise how bad I want to keep creating and evolving in this field,” she added.

Dastidar’s years of classical training is lightly sprinkled on top of her Rn’B release, providing an interesting swirl of fusion that is both subtle and distinctive.
Growing up in Assam in the early 2000s, Sampriti had a natural interest in music from a very young age, thanks to her parents’ love of the arts. She started singing at 5, and her earliest memories are of her running off to the nearest clubhouse to learn music, dance, art, etc. while her mother looked for her.
“In the early 2000s, I grew up listening to Rn’B and used to watch Rihanna, Chris Brown and Michael Jackson on VH1. I used to watch Michael Jackson performing, and that’s what inspired me to be a performer and not just a singer,” she added.
Dastidar moved to Bombay to pursue her Master’s degree in Sociology, and that’s when she started meeting and jamming with local musicians. She performed live shows at venues like The Little Door and The Quarter before she landed a job in India’s first Cruise Liner, Jalesh Cruises, as part of a Trio which eventually bloomed into a 5- piece band.
The job helped her grow in confidence and gave her a lot of exposure besides allowing her to mingle, learn and collaborate on ideas for live performances with Techs, musicians, dancers and entertainers from all over the world.
The 25-year-old singer said that she will be releasing a lot of new songs in her Spotify and YouTube channel in the days coming and looks forward to collaborating with Assamese artists and most importantly Assamese producers.
On asking about her expectations from the Assamese industry, Dastidar replied, “There is a lot of talent in the Assamese industry and I definitely look forward to working with the artists here.”
“The next number will be an English track, New Soul Vibe which will be releasing in a month or two now and I am also working on Assamese tracks,” she added.
