Aizawl rapper Yugi Beats releases his latest EP Drug Love & Madness consisting of five songs, featuring a rapper from Shillong, Banrap Lyngdoh. Yugi Beats aka Dior hums about his love life and problems he sees on a daily basis. “It’s a bit personal as the lyrics goes. I hope you will understand once you listen to it clearly,” says Dior.
Following his breakthrough song, High School under the indie-label Aizawl Urban Records which has had 600 thousand views, David Thangjam became the household name in Meghalaya-n youths. He however is popularly known by his stage name, Yugi Beats and so far has released 16 singles.

His first EP as David Thangjam was released in 2016, which was featured in Rolling Stones India, and also got a radio play on Radio Mirchi Indie Mumbai and a couple of radio stations from Northeast as well.

His songs are a mix of psychedelic sound play and crass yet hard-hitting lyrics which are enough to make him stand out in the rooster of new-gen artists from Northeast India. “I am highly influenced by artists such as Skrillex, Kanye West, Lil Wayne,” he said adding that his genre is a mixture of RnB/Hip-hop with a blend of Pop Music.

Speaking about releasing an album amidst the pandemic, he says, “I would have tried to play gigs and toured around Northeast if there was no pandemic, but things got worst day by day. Instead of keeping the projects lying around, I’m just releasing it.”

Having started playing rock and metal music as a guitarist, Dior has played gigs with local bands from Aizawl, while honing his production skills and have been producing music for the last five years. “I start with making beats or with guitar chords, from there I shape and write the lyrics of the song,” said Dior while speaking to VibesMojo.
Upon asked about new projects that are lined up, the rapper from Aizawl said, “I’ll start working on my debut album, and I’m planning to release a couple of beat tapes in the coming months.”
