“I have more happening in my current life, every single day. By using the minimal resources and skills I have and not expecting anything out of this, I want to speak my heart out,” said Uddipan Sarmah of Aswekeepsearching as he started his maiden voyage in the world of a solo music career with his new song Puhor on May 1 .
The frontman of India’s premier post-rock band known for dishing out emotive shows Aswekeepsearching, Uddipan says, “Coming up with songs together as a team has its own set of fun and moments which is without a doubt beautiful. However, a lot is happening in my life right now for which I need a platform to speak out loud. I would not be sticking to any particular genre or style of music, but take it the way I evolve with time.”
The song with its carefully layered ambient music of the wind blowing, birds chirping gives a sense of stillness. The word Puhor in Assamese translates to light in English and takes into perspective the current scenario. Throwing more insight to his single Uddipan said, “Our lives changed, quite unexpectedly. In the beginning, the changes came in the form of anger, sadness, loneliness, and even times when I lost all hope. But as days passed, I took a few steps back, stopped worrying about the future and lived in today. It only took me a short while to realize how beautiful the sky looks, the breeze feels, and in that quietness, I could feel my heart pulse while the birds chirp. I never experienced a stillness like this in my entire life.”
As to the driving force behind penning down this song Uddipan said that this lockdown had pushed his creative potential to the limit, by allowing him to think more, pause, breathe, and then dive deeper into the imaginations to explore and rediscover himself as a musician, as a human being.
He added, “I wrote a song about this change, which made me believe that maybe the simple life we all have the option of living today, is the light at the end of the tunnel, to a better future. It is happiness!”
